From the Andorra-Spain<\/strong> border ,<\/strong> south of Toulouse<\/strong> and the Midi-Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es<\/strong> region, to the west of the Ari\u00e8ge<\/strong> d\u00e9partement, the Ariege Pyrenees<\/strong> boast a diversity of landscapes, including towns, forests, lakes and mountains. The area exudes a sense of grandeur and plenitude, with its wealth of ecology, flora and fauna. Each season offers a different perspective. Your Les Grottes campsite<\/a>, near Tarascon-sur-Ari\u00e8ge<\/a>, is right in the heart of the Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional des Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es Ariegoises<\/a>. Your campsite invites you to come and discover this PNR, renowned for the diversity of its heritage.<\/p>

Walking and visiting the sites of the Ariege Regional Nature Park<\/h2>

The most beautiful summits and lakes in Ari\u00e8ge<\/strong> can be conquered in the Ari\u00e8ge Pyrenees<\/strong> Regional Nature Park: Bassi\u00e8s lakes, Cirque d’Araing, Mont-Valier and Montcalm<\/strong>… 202 km of hiking trails (GR) and 166 km of footpaths (sentiers de petite randonn\u00e9e) run through forests that are home to remarkable wildlife. Many rare species live here: bearded vulture, Egyptian vulture, capercaillie, desman<\/strong>… Explore the villages and their heritage: S\u00e8de cathedral in Saint-Lizier, Seix and Pailh\u00e8s castles, Mas-d’Azil and Niaux caves, Aulus-les-bains thermal baths<\/strong>… 140 communes and their 46,000 inhabitants dot the region. Meet the last shepherds. Pastoralism is still very much alive here. <\/p>

History of the Ariege Pyrenees Regional Nature Park<\/h2>

Created in 2009, the Parc Naturel R\u00e9gional des Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es Ari\u00e9geoises<\/strong> (PNR) is renowned for the diversity of its natural, cultural and landscape heritage. From Castillon-en-Couserans <\/strong>to Val-de-Sos <\/strong>, via Saint-Girons, La Bastide de S\u00e9rou <\/strong>and Mas-d’Azil<\/strong>, it covers 40% of the Ari\u00e8ge <\/strong>region. That’s an area of 2,500 km\u00b2! It is the 4th PNR in the Midi-Pyr\u00e9n\u00e9es<\/strong> region, after the Grands Causses<\/strong>, Causses du Quercy <\/strong>and Haut Languedoc<\/strong>.
