The history of Château de Foix in Ariège
The oldest tower in the Château de Foix dates back to the 12th century. Did you know that the building withstood the siege and assaults of Simon de Monfort’s troops during the famous Albigensian Crusade in the 12th century? Over the centuries, it underwent many alterations, culminating in a major restoration in the 19th century. If you have the opportunity during your stay at the campsite, discover the history of the Château de Foix at the museum at the foot of the Château.

At the foot of the castle, don’t hesitate to visit the 2,000 m² museographic space, where you can learn about the Counts of Foix, former masters of the castle, and the history of the castle and the town of Foix, today the prefecture of the département and home to some 10,000 Foix inhabitants. The château also offers a mix of the virtual and the real, with fun activities, participatory workshops at the foot of the 3 towers and exhibitions of breathtaking war machines such as the trebuchet and the pierrière, not forgetting your encounter with characters straight out of the Middle Ages, such as La Chignole, Cordilh and Brunissende.
