Heritage of the Ariege region

Ariège is the perfect place for a happy holiday!

With its central position in the Pyrénées mountain range near Andorra and Spain, Ariège has a variety of protected landscapes and a wealth of culture and heritage to explore.

Camping des Grottes is perfectly nestled in the heart of the Ariège Pyrénées Regional Nature Park and near Ariège’s must-see sights.

You can also visit countless prehistoric caves including the world famous Niaux which is one of few decorated caves still open to the public. Grotte de la Vache reflects the lifestyle during the Magdalenian period (around 14,000 years ago) where you’ll find countless impressive relics or you can take a boat trip down the underground river of Labouiche.

In addition to the caves, the Parc de la Préhistoire allows your family to learn about prehistoric life and beasts.

Follow in the footsteps of the Cathars at Montsegur Château or the medieval Château de Foix.

Set aside some time to visit traditional villages such as medieval Mirepoix with its beautiful half-timbered houses.
